Tennis News – June 2010

~ By Chris Claypool

Tennis is continuing to thrive within the LQ community. There have been numerous examples of this throughout the summer.

Just the other weekend–on June 19th–was our annual Adult/Youth Tournament. We had a good turnout on teams, and everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves as well as the company of those around them. With a wide range of competition, the matches were fun and exciting for all.  But when all was said and done, the two teams left standing were the pairings of Blake Welch/Sam Welch; and Leo Despain/Boris Huston  Sadly, the final had to be rescheduled due to rain, but we anxiously await the results. Thanks to all who participated and contributed!

We have been well represented as a community through our young JTL competitors.  For the past four weeks each of our five teams has competed well and has done so in a kind, respectful manner. They have both traveled to and hosted such clubs as Blue Valley Racquet Club, Kansas City Country Club and National Golf Club. So come out and show your support as we have just two weeks of competition left before the end of the summer tournament!

We hope to continue this tennis-filled summer with our annual Member/Guest Doubles Tournament. Mark your calendars for Sat., July 17, and start looking for a partner. We look forward to seeing you!

Lastly, don’t forget each Monday and Tuesday evenings are our Women’s and Men’s nights starting at 7, with doubles play at 8. See you out there!
