Observe the Golden Rule

By Dave White

Every night that I tucked my children into bed, I reminded them of the Golden Rule: “Treat others as you wish to be treated”—a very simple concept that has withstood the onslaught of time. It is also one of the principles that Marion Laboratories, a company from which I retired, had embraced. It works and does bring out the best in all who apply it.

During this holiday season it might be a wonderful rule to start to apply for everyone at Lake Quivira. It seems lately there has been a lot of behavior which does not exemplify this simple rule. While there is no need to get into specifics, please take the time and ask yourself, “Do I practice this everyday in my life and with my neighbors here at the lake?” I would urge all those living here to become a better neighbor to your fellow Quivirans. We are a unique city and are blessed with so much. Appreciate what you have and treat your neighbors as you wish to be treated. Rather than bicker or cause a problem, simply call your neighbor and explain your concerns and work it out. We all need to be a little giving and caring. Life is too short to harbor ill will or cause ill will with your neighbors. We need to do a little more to welcome new people into our community. We do not want a reputation that buying a home here or remodeling an existing home is met with hostility and bad will.

All of us need to strive to make Lake Quivira a better neighborhood and not a place with nice homes with everybody out for themselves. When you live here it is supposed to be that you are experiencing a unique and wonderful lifestyle.

So as the holidays approach please remember The Golden Rule and make it your practice to “Treat others as you wish to be treated.”
