Tennis Talk by Jon Renberger, LQ Tennis Pro

This past month has been very active on the Lake Quivira tennis courts. The ladies Tencap team has enjoyed tremendous success competing on Friday mornings, and their final home match is June 30. The women’s league on Monday evenings and the men’s league on Tuesday nights has increased attendance each week. The shot of the day lesson and cardio clinic on Saturday mornings have drawn a group of 15-20 each week, and there is always room for more! The Junior Tennis League has forty on the team and are practicing and competing each week at a high level. Combine JTL participation with about sixty youth taking a summer recreation tennis class, and there are just over 100 Lake Quivira kids participating in some level of tennis. The future of LQ tennis is certainly bright!
The tennis club has also been active providing exciting opportunities for LQ members. The club sponsored a wonderful evening of margaritas, Mexican appetizers and tennis last Thursday. The event was attended by over thirty people, who braved the heat and humidity for an hour of rotational mixed doubles play and several hours of margarita mixing!
Finally, mark your calendar for Sat., July 29, from 9 to 11 a.m., for a morning of Poker tennis. No gambling skills required, but the stronger your tennis game, the better your poker hand! Prizes will be awarded. Also, there will be a women’s member/guest tournament on the evening of Thurs., Aug. 10. Please contact me or Amy Kentfield for additional information.
