Becky Johnson scored another, yes, another Hole in One during stroke play at Staley Farms. This is her second Hole in One, the first coming at Lake Quivira a few years back. Some of us are truly envious since we have never even had one, let alone two. Congratulations, Becky.
August proved to be a bit wetter than normal, in case you didn’t notice, but that didn’t stop the ladies of QWGA from playing each Tuesday–especially for the Club Championship August 22 – 23. The final results were as follows:
Club Champion Jody McCamish – score of 164. 1st Flight (gross score) Christina Gomer, 1st; Linda Cruse, 2nd; Margaret Ellman, 3rd. 1st Flight (net Score) – Becky Johnson, 1st; Beth Hall, 2nd; Pat Sandow, 3rd. 2nd Flight (gross score) – Joyce Terbovich, 1st; Betsy Vossman, 2nd; Loretta Hoover, 3rd; Martha Voight, 4th. 2nd Flight (net Score) – Connie Sheppard, 1st; Cathy Owen, 2nd; Dana DeSpain, 3rd. Congratulations to all the winners. Even after six inches of rain, second day, they prevailed!
September promises to be another busy month for members and especially the Quivira golf community. On Labor Day weekend, we will have the annual Patriot Golf Weekend, during which we raise monies for the families of fallen military in the line of duty. Please consider helping with a donation before you play on September 2-4.
Check with the Pro Shop for more details. These men and women are giving their service and many times their lives to make certain our country is safe. This is a huge sacrifice often overlooked in our current times. So please be generous with your donation. Their families thank you.
In addition to our normal Tuesday play day for 18-Hole ladies, the Pro Shop has announced a Couples Invitational on September 10. This is the perfect opportunity to invite a couple from outside the community and play our beautiful course. Sign up in the Pro Shop.
FYI for you: Jeff Eldridge and his crew will be doing an aerification of the greens on September 11-12. The 18-Hole and 9-Hole ladies will play Wed., Sept. 13. QWGA pairings by the Pro Shop.

The QWGA 9 Hole Rally for the Cure will be Wednesday, Sept. 20. The four-player team scramble is open to ladies in the 9 and 18 Hole groups, Thursday Night League and guests. An 8:30 a.m. shotgun scramble will be followed by an awards luncheon and silent auction. All proceeds go to the Susan G. Komen fight against breast cancer. Signup details will be emailed and posted in the Pro Shop.
Before we know it, our temperatures will start to fall. and we will soon end our season for 2017. Already looking anxious for the warmer days of summer for 2018. So, get out there and play some rounds of wonderful golf. Our warm days are fleeting. Don’t forget to record your scores after each round.
The signs of seasons’ change are everywhere. Jerry and I are in Vail, CO, where we are beginning to see the aspens start their color change to a gold hue. Out time here is almost finished, but we’re looking forward to seeing our friends at Lake Quivira again. One thing I am still not certain of: it’s been said your golf ball flies farther at high altitudes, but you can’t prove that by me! It all appears the same distance.
Until September, enjoy your golfing experience each day.
